Seven of us spent 3 days and 2 nights at Lake Texoma. Our group included SeaPro Todd, Lenahorse, Cliffshot, and I and friends Chris, Bruce, and Graham. Lenahorse’s friend Guy, who lives there, joined us Wednesday and Thursday. We had planned this trip since early August and rented a large cabin at Lighthouse Resort. We took 3 boats and had two to three fishing out of each boat for the three days. Fishing started about 9 to 10 AM Wednesday and ended about noon to 1 PM on Friday – fishing dawn til sunset with a break for lunch on Thursday. For the three days, we caught about 350 fish – mostly stripers. Fourteen of the stripers were 20 inches or larger (overs), about half of those were 24 inches or bigger, and the biggest was a 28-inch fish. A crappie, a catfish, a 3lb drum, and a number of white bass constituted the other species of fish.

Last summer when we went, we only caught one on a Mepps spinner and discovered that Little Cleo spoons worked best. What we didn’t try was a colored Mepps – only silver. This trip we discovered that a glow #4 Mepps – white with yellow or pink edges - worked best. It caught the two biggest stripers – the 28 incher and a 26 incher as well as other overs. We also caught some on the Little Cleos, A-rigs, slabs, and MAL Mepps.

Most of our fish were caught on the north side of the islands following birds. However, several overs, including the 26 and 28 inch ones, were caught searching with the side-scan around West Island without bird assist.

The trip was a lot of fun and good fellowship with a great bunch of guys. Special thanks to Cliffshot - a world-class chef - for two delicious evening meals. We’ve definitely got to do this again. Here are some pictures of our trip:

Dennis , you and your group are true Mepps ambassadors . Unlike another Mepps like wanna be rep. Ya'll take the Mepps and fish and catch hundreds of fish from lakes all over north Texas. Proving your method and skills beyond your home lake. Your technique is awesome , we have used it on PK , however have had a hard time with fish moving so fast. Keep up the good work and fishing threads.

I sure had a great time!! We need a dead stick trip in the works.

Thanks for organizing this trip, Dennis. I had a great time with nicest guys who are also very skillful, experienced anglers as well. 4 are vets so this WTF Texoma's vet road trip was extra special (Wed, Thurs, Fri)

I caught most of mine on Mepps #4 white Glo on 12# mono and Arig. My guests also did great on sassy. Texoma is a great lake
