WHY WHY WHY???? Why do boat manufacturers use STEEL seat pedestals in a bass boat. Everything else in this boat is glass, aluminum, or some other type of water resistant material… but NOT the seat pedestals

Installing new padding and carpeting, 100% though the boat. I removed the last little area of carpet between the livewells and I thought it was a hump by design. NOPE. It’s a 1/4 plate of steel that has rusted to a 1/2 chunk of flaky rust. Why would they do that? Stupid. Now I spent three hours grinding that rust chunk off my boat and repairing it with Bondo/glass. It was cold last night and it took all night to cure. I’ve got all the boat carpeted and waiting on a 14x10 i section to get finished before I can install all the hatches back on. I want to be fishing this morning. Not working on the damn boat.

As Gilda Radner said, "It's Always Something", I know the feeling you are going thru, I finally figure how to get over those feelings, for me I just ceased to care, figure I had done enough, told myself time to use it or sell it. Once I had every thing fixed, only took 4 years to complete it after I got my boat, now one year free of not working on it. There are a couple of minor things I could do, but I decided not worry anymore.

I got to spend all day yesterday changing out my hydraulic steering hoses, upgraded the jp to a bob's and while doing it found a hard kink in one and the other was trying to. guess 13 yrs. is a good lifespan for them.

also had a small ding on the lower unit in the bondo glass I used when I added the nosecone, cured out and gonna sand and paint today so no boat this weekend.

Thanks. I don’t think I can ever have a boat that isn’t fully padded again. It is so easy on the feet and knees. I kneeled down to land a fish Sunday afternoon and the padding was instantly worth every penny and hours required for the retrofit.

We don’t use steel, all Stainless or aluminum now, including the pins custom in Stainless on boats in recent model years.
