I had a life flashing before my eyes moment this morning...
I set out drifting in about 30 feet of water. Marked some fish and had a slight breeze from the south. pulled boards for a bit, with no drift sock, them the wind picked up a bit and I needed the sock so I put it out. Got one eater in the boat and the wind died again. I pulled the drift sock in. few minutes later the wind almost quit all together so I lowered the trolling motor...
In a matter of a few seconds the wind went from dying out of the south to probably 20 miles an hour sustained straight out of the north. Not a cloud in the sky but some kind of front came through and the north wind blew me back over my baits and tangled everything I had in the water. It spun me around and the waves were coming over the transom. All this in literally less than 10 seconds. Never experienced anything like it. Never seen the wind change that fast and the water go from flat to breaking over the transom in the blink of an eye. I grabbed all the lines in my hand and pulled them into the boat. I needed to get the planer boards back or I would have just cut them all. Once I got everything in the boat, I clicked the bilge on and headed south to get behind the island and out of the wind.
I got to calmer water. Made sure everything was safely in the boat got my head back on straight and headed for the marina. When I got the boat in the slip I said a little prayer thanking the good Lord for getting me back safe. I was still shaking...
I was happy I was alone today. I would not have wanted to have Wyatt with me in a situation like that. I could tell the boat took on a lot of water because it didn't want to get on plane. I learned a valuable lesson. ALWAYS BE AWARE. I realized that I have become too at ease on the water. I needed a wake up and brothers I got one! I'm not sure I could have done anything different to get out of harms way any faster but had I been more aware, I might have been in less of a panic.
Stay safe everyone...

Glad you are ok Tim.
I have a friend out there today and he said there was a bunch of bassboats out there with camera boats following them around. Did you see any? I wonder what is going on. He sent me a pic and it looks like MLF but Im not sure

I did see a bunch of sponsored bass boats. As I was leaving there was one in the marina with a fisherman, a referee and a camera man...

WOW!
Glad you got back ok, Tim.
The forecast was all over the place this week, with gusts forecast to 25 mph most days so I was cautious and ended up not going. One day I remembered a 10-15mph forecast increasing to 20mph, and was at home in completely calm conditions. What???
Later that afternoon the wind got up so strong it blew all our decorations down.
Crazy!
