On my boat my current location is near the center console mounted off to the side. Has anyone played around with mounting it closer to the bow has any effect to holding spot. Also has anyone tried the upgrade to a terrova yet? It's that time of the year I start changing up my electronics.

The Minnkota puck is a Heading Sensor (compass) nothing else. Just has to be positioned so it is not affected by ferrous metals, magnets, high current, and the Bluetooth communication to the iPilot not blocked by materials that block radio signals.
The iPilot is the GPS part that does the motor positioning, the Heading Sensor is used to indicate direction for the jogging feature.

My heading sensor was mounted on back of boat and when I spot locked it, it would always back me up and not hold where I wanted to. I moved it to the front by trolling motor and now it keeps me right on within 2-3 ft of locked position. I don’t know why they put it back there, all I can think is they didn’t want to run a wire up front from battery. Only took about 10 mins. to do.

They mount the Lowrance Point ones on the rear of the boat usually not the ipilot heading sensor. The reason they mount the point one on the rear is to keep it as close to the transducer as possible for accuracy when marking structures.
