I invested in a chamber vac sealer. Will use mostly for fish. But also chili , gumbo , stew..

for those that have these devices , What else do you use it for?

we pre-marinate steak, chicken, and pig chops. seal them / freeze them. Since its just me and the spousal unit, we buy family packs on sale. Then we divide it into dinners for two.
set out before work, come home to a thawed , marinated ready to grill meal.

You can vac pac any meats, veggies, bread, cheese. We have even tried candy, freeze it, thaw it 6 months later & tastes as good as when you bought it. Weird I know but we had to try it.

Reality. What a concept!

We have one of the cheaper ones and it works well for the most part. We don't use it too terribly often but do from time to time. One time we ordered a little chunk of ham that costs only $8 (we get our groceries delivered), apparently they were out of those and substituted it with a full size 16lbs ham for the same price!!! Obviously we couldn't eat the whole thing so we split it into 4 serving size chunks and sealed em for the freezer. Still have some for future deliciousness.

Keeps the buds fresh.

Just Kidding.

We use ours all the time. Buy meat in bulk, dividing it up and freezing smaller portions. Great for leftovers like smoked meats too. Don't fish near as much as when we lived on the Island, but of course it's great on fish. Tools and first aid supplies in your boat. Seeds if you're into gardening. Almost all seeds can be frozen, taken out in the spring and planted in warm soil will sprout very fast.

Ill buy several Sockeye fillets when they are in season, smoke them, separate into portions to have later. Its also a good way to brine the salmon (2nd picture).

When I go camping, ill marinate my steak and seal it.

Ill occasionally buy several pork butts when they are on sale. Grind into sausage, etc.

And, obviously keep fish occasionally too.

Another tip I read somewhere was to seal matches/lint, etc in them to keep them 100% dry. Good for the back country. Break in case of emergency.

Also, another good tip, I usually double seal everything as cheap insurance. Usually if youre going to have a pinhole leak, its in your seal.

That salmon looks so good!

Probably my second favorite appliance. And good tips on the matches and ammo!

In the spirit of regaining some mojo, somebody should start a poll and have us rank appliances.

I have a food saver brand. I don’t really like it as it pulls too much vacuum and the juices from whatever I’m trying to package comes to the top and doesn’t let it seal properly. It also makes a mess on the outside of the bag. Do y’all have that same problem? I even set it to moist to try to reduce the vacuum pressure it applies.
