Caught 25 bass today 8am to 2pm. 18 were slot fish from 2 pounds 3 oz. to 5 pounds 13 oz. Got into a school of them, caught all but one in the same spot. Had to throw the bait to the edge of the water in about 6 inches. The bass had the shad herded to the shore and were killing them. Caught them on a variety of baits. Water temp was about 75º when I got there. I tried to fine tune a Ned Rig using some different baits and reshaping the heads. But I have decided the Z-Man jigs and baits are the only way to go.

WTG Bill...seems like this has been an unusually good fall on FCL...at least for me.

I made the long drive out to FCL yesterday for the first time and it was horrible. I think they all feasted at night with the 2/3 full moon because the only thing biting yesterday was babies. I think I caught 4 bass from 2 to 7 inches, lost one at the boat about a pound and hooked something heavy that came off halfway to the boat. With the constant waves I expected the fish would be near the shore, but aside from the babies they never appeared. It was very disappointing.

Fayette can be a killer at times.

We were out there on Saturday and it was slightly a struggle, not like the few weeks before. They dropped the lake about 16-18" and I think that and the high pressure system kind of messed up the fish. We still managed a few good ones from the deeper water, but the fish were not shallow like they should have been in the AM.

Nice job Bill! Me and a buddy went on Wednesday and caught around 30. We also ran into a school but in 25’ of water over by the dam. Caught everything on TR soft plastics (mainly Yum Dingers). Found the school with SI and then locked in on them using the AT. It was nice and really the first time I can say the AT paid off. The wind was blowing about 15 out of the south and the dam protected us from the wind. Think we were lucky to find the school as other boats fishing the rocks didn’t seem to have the same luck. I love Fayette when it is on fire because even someone like me can catch them. Good luck everyone!

Why would you think fish would be shallow due to constant waves offshore? The movement of water from wave action reaches below the surface some distance but it has a limit, so water that is shallow can be more disturbed. Many fish move out of such rough shallow water to prevent being tossed around like sneakers in a washing machine.

Our club had a small tournament there this weekend. It was tough with the rain and wind, but both the deep bite and the shallow bite were very good.
