I noticed the last three trips for crappie, the number of fish and the size really increased after about 3:30 in the afternoon.

Has anyone else been having a slow day and then catching crappie late in the day?

I have been just trying to target the bigger fish, but I did also notice the better bite didn’t happen until after 1:00.. it was also a lot of moving and searching, they are definitely not stacked up on any particular brush pile or timber. The best concentration of fish I found was in 12-17 FOW

I always do better later in the day in general year round. The longer the sun is out, the more fish push down into cover. I tell my clients, any fish before 10 am are bonus fish and we will do the best later.

Not sure when I've caught more but any talk of not having to wake up so early in the morning to go fishing works for me.

The 'morning bite' is way over rated in Crappie fishing,...a good breakfast, couple cups of coffee at a local marina restaurant
always seems to make the fish bite better... hooked

That’s why I bass fish first thing then start crappie fishing around 10:00. Best of both worlds
