Check it out, a fishing report in the report section! Fished the above surf Wednesday & Thursday on a short window time frame. Water was exceptional, surf low enough and GLW wanted to catch some fish. Wednesday afternoon using live finger mullet, no fish, crabs enjoyed dinner. Was really surprised. Thursday fished the 2nd gut using cut skippy. in 3 hour window picked up 4 Blacktip pup sharks, missed one, so 4 for 5 on the solid hits and a small cute looking ray, no barb, so not sure the species. Fun fights on medium tackle. Action was steady once bait was out there. Folks around were interested in the sharks, one couple asked before 1st hook up if any sharks are out there? Sometimes easy fishing is the best. Cast out, sit back, watch the rods bend, fight the fish, repeat.

Do you think the new moon had anything to do with your success? And what kind of game fish were you expecting to catch at this time of the year?

Do you think the new moon had anything to do with your success? And what kind of game fish were you expecting to catch at this time of the year? Bruce, sorry for the delay in responding was out dealing with opening day this weekend. Don't feel that sharks are influenced very much by moon phases, especially in early September when finger mullet are everywhere. Do feel the tidal phases effects other species cruising the surf. When GLW is fishing our target is to catch fish, hopefully bigger size. Species is not a real concern but we figure on catching pup blackies up to 10 lbs, reds, spanish macs, skippjack, specks, gafftop, and hope bigger shark, bull red, tarpon, or jack will bite. After a full spring & summer of being busy, this is "take what bites" fishing, usually to an empty or mostly empty beach, clean water and low surf. Hope this helps.
