I’m looking to upgrade my units in the near future, but am ignorant to the current technology. Currently I just have two 2d traditional sonar finders on my boat and would like to upgrade to sidescan and 3D. I’ve found what appears to be a great deal on some new lowrance elite units, but have never really been around lowrance products.

Does anyone have any feedback, pros or cons I should be aware of? I searched for last posts and didn’t see anything.

I was also eyeing some Garmin 93SV’s, but the lowrance elite 12 is cheaper than the 9 inch Garmin currently.

Ti2 9 inch is like $600 at walmart i think. if that unit has the 3 in 1 ducer....that is THE best bang for your buck unit out there. the 3 in 1 ducer is awesome...and I am of the opinion Lowrance discountinued the Ti2 because it was such a superior product relative to what they were charging for it, even at full retail. Yea the screen resolution isnt the same as the Live units....but you are honestly full of it if you say it makes a difference.

I got a helix 12 Mega SI G3N on my console....when I first got them both id troll along and compare both units. I PROMISE you arent missing anything on the Ti2 that the Helix picks up....and Humminbird has hands down the best SI imaging. Call me out on it....ill record video on my phone in a week or 2 when i get back out if you think im blowing smoke

I have a Ti9 which is outdated but worked well, upgraded to hummingbird helix this year and Im blown away. The technology is really amazing with all the big names. My advice is to atart asking around to see the product on the water. I can give you the nickel tour on hummingbird and the 360. But you should see them out on the water before making a decision. Shoot me an IM if your interested in seeing the HB.

I have two elite ti's and a helix on my boat. The lowrance are easy to use and figure out because they are touch screen and have a home/menu screen which makes it easier to navigate. However, I think the helix produces a better picture. I really don't think you can go wrong with lowrance, garmin, or humminbird though

That’s what I’m referring to. The Ti 12 is $998. I was not aware the Ti2 were being discontinued. That makes me nervous they they would eventually stop getting updates or be compatible with other newer things. The price has me very curious though.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

The Elite TI2 was replaced by the Elite FS almost a year ago. I picked up a 12 inch TI2. with the 3 in 1 transducer for $1000 when BassPro/Cabelas was clearing them out. I like it a lot. I had a smaller TI unit with Totalscan before and the 3 in 1 sidescan images are definitely better. It’s easy to use with the touchscreen. Mine has the Navionics card and it’s easy to offset for water levels or set a desired depth range.
For $1000 it’s a bargain.

On my last boat I had Ti-9’s and switched out to Ti2-12’s. Night and day difference with side scan and chirp down imagining. New to me rig is equipped with Helixes and while they are great I miss the touch screens on the Ti’s.

Does anyone know what the difference would be in comparing a Lowrance HDS 12 gen 2 to a new Ti2-12?

That is a very valid concern. Ive never updated mine just using it the same as it was out of the box. Im not gonna be networking or adding any live to mine so the lack of updates is no issue to me. I thankfully got a good one that had 0 issues....and I just never saw a reason to update it if I liked it as is.

They added in the new Ti series to add compatibility so you can go that route....but youll pay for it. If you want a solid unit that will do what its supposed to do as far as finding fish and giving water temps....and dont need a unit to totally trick out/network, I genuinely belive the Ti2 is the absolute best bang for your buck unit out there. Like Brock mentioned, and seconded what I said....that Ti2 is a solid unit even up against the best in the game humminbird mega SI! I really think Lowrance messed up and made to good of a unit since it came with the 3 in 1 ducer like the Live units came with. and sure its a lesser screen technically....but im telling you its 720 vs 1080 type of difference at most, versus 720 vs 4k or anything drastic like that. Even compared to the Helix/Mega SI, its comparable with the helix just being slightly crisper lines.....in my opinion.

FWIW...i was gonna buy a second Ti2 as the plan until I was given the opportunity to get a helix for about half off. It really is a great unit.

The key, at least to me, is to figure out YOUR mission. Then figure out YOUR budget.

I set out to get the most bang for the $. I'm not a tournament guy, but, I wanted to be able to fish offshore so I needed a decent set up. This is what I put together.....

2 HDS10 Gen 2's networked running off a 3D SS and 3D transducer..... console & bow
A Elite Ti2 7" at the bow...
An old Hook 7, that I already had, at the console....

I've get $1800 in the whole deal......did all the electrical/installation myself.

Works perfectly and for the money it's the best I could come up with via Lowrance. I've always used Lowrance products so that's why I went the direction that I did.

However, as most have stated, you can't go wrong with Garmin or HB. Just figure out your mission and your budget and keep doing due diligence. With enough research you'll lock down on what you're after and their market value. Then watch FB marketplace, EBay, here, BBC, etc and pick em up one at a time.
