I got nostalgic and went old school Halloween on the colors. But I think these foam poppers should work on pretty much any day of the year.

"Post Prom Night BLUESssssss........" Best I could do after an hour of listening to BB King's "BLUESVILLE" then an hour of "Deep Tracks" all while sipping the national beer of Texas for inspiration. (Both channels are on SIRUSXM) Played through a 70s era stereo receiver and matching huge speaker enclosures. Then we cranked up the bass but down on the volume. And of course..... Had an ice cold Lone Star Beer. We miss you Dusty Hill. Steve Bob

These are from a "tie your own flies" course I am taking (PostFly). The flies are called Mulberry Red/Purple. I am told carp love them. They are also supposed to make the same plop as if it were a real mulberry and look enough like the real fruity snack to a near sighted carp. The four in the corners are the ones I tied and the one in the middle, was the pre-tied example fly that comes with the kit. I think I did pretty good. Any one here fly for carp?

Those flies you tied look promising, at least for grass carp. I don’t have any experience with other carp. There used to be Grass Carp in the lake I’m on. They were a tough sell. The best pattern I found was a black booby fly from Big Y discount flies. The fly had orange foam eyes, chenille and other bits and floated low on the water. Once in a while, the wind and conditions were such that it would sort of push and accumulate debris on the surface of the water near my dock. There would be dead mayflies, leaves, other insects floating. The grass carp would skim slowly along the surface slurping down the dead mayflies and anything else that looked promising. The drill was to try and predict where the carp was headed to, cast way out ahead and then drag the fly into position and leave the fly absolutely stationary. Any perceived movement sent the carp in a different direction. These aren’t aggressive fish. Sometimes, the carp would nose the fly without committing. It was tough fishing, but I’d stick it out until I generally got a fish to eat. The other way I’ve gotten a few is by sub surface nymph fishing. The carp would nose along the bottom and along the shoreline. I think it was a prince nymph that I used, something definitely designed for cold water trout. Another timing issue presentation. It was a little more predictable on where the carp was heading. I’m glad the carp are gone. It was sight fishing with a super high cast to eat ratio. Nothing in the saltwater that I’ve fished for even comes close. Notoriously difficult sheephead are easier to get an eat than Grass Carp. That was my experience.

I remember catching carp for fun as a kid on a Woolworth three dollar (cork handle)15 foot cane pole with 10 lb test tied to the end of it using worms or corn on a cheap Aberdeen wire hook. Ya did not usually get the opportunity to take a victory lap for bettering the beast from the murky beneath on a setup like that. But while ya had em on the line, it was a world class hoot.... I'd just enjoy reliving that experience again even if it's just once more. I always get nostalgic around this time of year. That is until Thanksgiving at my mother's house. Just think.... 5 generations of my family getting ready for a Smack down turkey fest the likes of something the WWE would not televise for being too graphic in my mother's tiny house... LOL!!! Then at that point I'll be truly ready for next year..... Come to think of it.....Come on next year already.... LOL!!!
Sorry I sort of drifted off subject... I can be very patient and thank you for the great tips and insight, I'll keep them in mind..
