transition periods can be very tough, maybe go spider rig a few areas at the mouth of the creek where it connects to the main lake. structure and cover are often not important in this type of situation they are there because the shad are gathering to go into the creeks.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Ok guys. I haven't done too much official crappie fishing. I have just been opportunistic if you know what I mean. Anyways, trying to learn this stuff. So I get that they are moving in to the creeks. How long will they be there? I was thinking as winter approached they moved out to deep water. A little clarification would be greatly appreciated.

If your lake has feeder creeks the H20 in the creeks will be warmer than in the main lake when the outside & Lake temps change . Shad cannot live in severely cold water temps Therefore the Shad will migrate to the creeks to keep alive. Those that are not consumed by the Crappie migration will stay there until the Temps on the main lake change more to their likings before returning. If your lake doesn`t have feeder creeks you have to look for it`s warmer water when the outside & Lake temps change to find the Shad/bait fish. Everyone knows the Crappie will follow the bait fish.IMHO

Tightlines,
Some fish go both places, up the creeks and out deep. Some lakes are more of one or the other. Fork is more of a deep lake and Lewisville is a creek lake to me. With that being said, there are fish in both places on both lakes. The creeks stay warmer because of the shallow water warmed by the sun. The shad have to stay warm or they will die and they go up. The crappie follow. Typically the colder the better. MY best day was when I had to throw logs out to break the ice so my bobber would float. They stay there till about May from what I have seen. There are resident fish that never leave the creeks but the numbers leave around that time and it start about 11/1 each year IMO.

Finally found some today. Jig and bobber in hydrilla. Should get better and better as it gets colder. Water was 54 degrees today which is good. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/11/full-26829-119395-25673d72_e98f_4738_867a_9bebb8e3d84b.jpeg)
