I'm looking at several boats and most have 2 stroke motors. Let me ask yall about how many hours yall think are too many. Is 500 alot on a motor that is properly maintained? I know at some point parts start needing to be replaced just because they where out, is there an approximate time these things start happening? Power heads. Are those always gonna need to be replaced at some point? Thank you

Maintained two strokes will last thousands of hours especially if they arent run hard.
*let me clarify run hard
No warm ups, lots of idling with being run, over reving, not keeping maintenance up

26 y.o. merc 200 xri/efi, runs like a top and it gets run wfo often.
I would rather have one well maintained and run around max. rpm than one that has been lugged in low rpm a lot.

My last Yamaha had 3,600 mud sucking abused hours. Good oil (never wal mart) and good fuel they last a very long time.

My Johnson 150 is 26 years old and runs awesome! Good oil and good fuel. Still running my grandfather’s evinrude 25 hp it’s 51 years old and still runs good.. just take care of it and hope you don’t have a mechanical issue.

My 88 Johnny still has 115 comp and runs 2-3 days a week no more than 3/4 throttle, as stated above warm up, no over rev, good oil and fuel with filter, and enjoy for a long time.
