9.6 on a shakey head on a spinning reel with 8 lb leader and a knot I tied to the light braid. Much more worried about my knot than the fish throwing the hook.

Have landed multiple 7+ on 8# mono at Monty & Fork. Lost a couple DD's (possibly) on 8# at Fork.

I always wanted to catch a bass that weighed more than the pound test line I was using. Its not likely to happen these days since I mostly fish 50# braid LOL

I caught a 7.5 pounder on the tiniest wooper plopper on 8 pound finese rig on Lake Buchanan a few years ago. It was a fun fight.

Del Valle. I was alternating between a jig and a dropshot along a steep rocky bank one January. I figured if I caught a big one it would be on the jig but not this time.
It took me forever to get her up from 20 or 25 feet in the cold water and with light line. When I tried to net her she bumped the net and made another run. Heart attack time.

The pics of me with the bass and releasing her were taken by the park attendant after she was weighed on the park marina scale.

About 4# on drop shot. Full disclosure I use 12# straight fluorocarbon on my spinning rod for drop shot. I did catch 5 4-6 pound channel cats on a drop shot in a matter of 15 minutes one afternoon 18 feet deep. Have caught quite a few 5-8 # bass throwing a weightless fluke. That is my go to rig if the wind is dead calm and the surface is slick as glass.

I've caught hundreds of 5-6 lbers finesse fishing. Neds/drop shot. I've never cracked 7lbs finesse fishing though. I'm not sure why that is. Plenty of studies done that show big bass do eat small lures. Maybe I've just been unlucky.

I have caught many 5 lb smallmouth on 7lb test on the great lakes. I caught a 46" musky one time on an ultralight with 6lb line while I was walleye fishing. You just let your drag do the work on spinner gear. Not as easy in Texas with submerged trees everywhere.

Bunch of three, four and five pounders on slider worms and drop shots. My first bass ever was a five pounder on a slider worm.

My uncle promised me Iā€™d catch a bass and he was right. We were fishing from a jon boat. He told me to throw that worm over a lay down and when it got on top to just let if fall to the bottom. Started swimming sideways, set the hook, and we both realized it was a big fish for six pound line. Before cell phone cameras, but I can still picture it vividly.

6.5 on a drop shot.. 8+ on wacky weightless. I know it doesn't count but I caught a huge grass carp on the drop shot.. needless to say it took a while to get that one to the boat.
