Hey guys, I recently added a 40lb thrust trolling motor to my Jackson coosa HD, what side lithium battery can I get to last all day. Do I need to go 100ah or will 60ah do the job?

It depends on how you use it. All day is a lose term. If you mean you're fishing all day but only using your TM to get you to and from your fishing spot then a 60 ah will work. If you're using your TM throughout the day go with the 100 ah hands down.

I saw this battery the other day. I know nothing about it but did watch a review on YT and seems like it's well built. The price is right!

Jerry is correct, "It depends on how you use it."

A 40 lb thrust motor will probably use around 40 amps at full speed. So the rough calculation for a 60 amp hours battery if you run it at continuously full speed without stopping or slowing down is:

60 amp hours/ 40 amps = 1.5 hours

But most people would not run a motor continuously at full power unless they were fighting a vicious Windstorm or trolling at full speed. Keep in mind that the top speed will drop gradually as the battery approaches empty, and that the 60 amp hour capacity drops significantly if you are fishing cold weather especially approaching freezing temperatures. On the other hand, if you're just going to park and maneuver at a honey hole and go back, the 60 amp hours battery may last several days, depending on the distance!

So, the general rule of the thumb is to get the biggest battery you can afford, or the biggest that you or your boat can practically handle weight wise or size wise. That way you're covered in case of a vicious windstorm or needing to get back quickly after an emergency or exhausting day.

Thanks for the info. It was very helpful. I definitely need to go with the 100ah.

I would reach out to Impulse Lithium, they will get you going in the right direction. I think their 60ah Platinum Line will work. I've. heard of guys running the 54ah in 20' boats and current all day. www.impulselithium.com
