Yes, but I am not sure it is always the best thing to do.

Agree w/Rayzor. I usually slow for trollers, kayaks, boats fishing…..for their safety and simple courtesy but most of the time I’d prolly do better(for them) just flying by on plane w/minimal wake.

I do in tight places. I think it is the courteous thing to do. However when I am fishing a small lake like Fayette and Im running to where Im going to fish I dont always back down when someone is spot locked out on a deep hump or the road beds that cross that lake. There is just not enough room to swing around these boats in open water. I have had some guys wave their arms at me thinking because they are parked fishing in the middle of the lake you should come off plane and idle past them. One guy I observed earlier that apparently got mad at me for not shutting down, do the exact same thing to another boat that he past that was spot locked on a road bed that he ended up fishing.

Stay on plane and take a wide berth.

I slow down, and trim way up, to plow water!

Not really. I usually idle by, unless there is ample space…then I just keep flying. I have enough experience to know what’s best for them. They should appreciate everything I do. cheers

Of course I slow down (all the way to idle depending on circumstances) as do all thinking anglers. But congratulations on posting something that will get plenty of comments. The question is will it get very many views? I'm still skeptical of your motives.

That depends a lot on the boat. Lighter bass boats and light aluminum boats can usually stay on plane and pass 100 ft away with minimum wake.

But wake boats and deep V fiberglass boats that weigh over 3500 lbs will throw a big wake unless they slow down to 2-4 mph.

The boat passing in the video that I asked to slow was a deep V fiberglass fishing boat that probably weighed over 4000 lbs fully loaded.

He slowed early enough that his wake didn't hit me and he passed with great care, more or less enjoying watching me reel in the biggest fish I caught in October.

But I agree with the notion to know your wake, assess from a distance, and make a plan for minimum impact on others.

Definitely, but also speed matters for top plainning boats like bass boats. When I ran my Ranger bass boat at 35+ mph, the wake wasn't much; slow the boat to 15mph and big wake. Fortunately in the lakes I fish that allow gas motors, fishing boaters are considerate. Not so much pleasure boats - especially pulling skiers. frown

This is what I do. Common sense goes a long way. In tight spots as OP originally asked, it is always the best thing to do.
