When I acquired my camper trailer from my X and her husband, they thru in the sway bar stuff and the heavy duty ball hitch. I noticed that the ball on that heavy mount was tilted to the rear (toward the camper) about 5 degrees. It pulls fine but I've always wanted to know why it's not straight up and down. What do ya'll think the reason is ?

I assume you are looking at the ball when attached to a level truck unloaded. Maybe the Xs truck was rear ended with the ball mount in the hitch. I have several ball mounts and they are all straight and level. It would take a hard hit to bend a ball mount.

Nothing is bent up...no wreck.. It's just the type of ball mount that slides into my receiver. Seems like it's adjusted that way

It is part of the design of the weight distribution hitch. I cant quote you the exact purpose of what the angle achieves, but it is meant to be that way. Google will probably be able to tell you, I will likely do a little research so I can have it for the future.
