Hi everyone, just moved to the Belton area from Southern California and will be fishing mainly Belton Lake. I have a Ranger 488VS and will begin fishing in the spring. How comparable is fishing in Southern California to fishing Belton Lake. Is there anything in particular I should know about fishing the lake? Thanks in advance.

It's a deep, clear water lake. There's no vegetation at all. It has a nice population of smallmouth bass. It's a nice lake

I’m still in the process of moving and also need to service the boat. I will be upgrading to new electronics all around also so that will take some time to complete.

I don't know a whole bunch about SoCal fishing but I think if you're looking for something similar to what you have been fishing, I don't think Belton is the place to go. If you've been fishing deep, clear water with rocky shorelines, then maybe so. But then again, all I think about when someone says California is the Delta.

Welcome to Texas. Can't really go wrong with any Texas Lake. Of course like anywhere else you will get a beatdown occasionally but it seems like you can find fish on most lakes. Stick with your confidence baits. You can find some great fishing out in East Texas. Of course the Big Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend but there are smaller lakes that can be Great! Lake of The Pines, Bob Sandlin, Palestine, Athens. OH Ivie delivered a summer full of giants.

I moved to Texas from SoCal a few months ago. Texas fishing is way better in my experience. Good luck on fishing Belton. The high school state championship tournament is there this year.

I think a bunch of those So Cal lakes are rocky and clear, just like Belton just on the smaller size, at least that what I've seen from all the Mike Long stuff when they exposed him. My boat is out of commission right now but if you were to fish Belton lake from shore what would you throw? I’m 3 minutes from the lake and want get my first Texas bass. Use the search function, theres plenty of info here on Belton but its honestly not the easiest lake in the area to catch fish on, it was better at least for me before the zebra mussels showed up.

Welcome to the area and the forum. I'd throw either a rattle trap or swimbait of sorts, probably a silver blueback rattletrap. If that doesn't get you something, chunk a pumpkinseed worm rigged Texas style. Vegetation is over on Stillhouse, and its starting to separate and die off right now. LMB are heating up on SH For your boat needs, check out https://www.marineoutlet.com/ lots of knowledgeable folks there and can assist with your electronics install if you need it. good luck
