Three of our home computers will not be able to load Window 11. mad

But hey! Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 through 2025, then I'll need new computers.

I do as well. Don't go online with it and runs like a top. Used it for years printing pictures from Rodeos all over Texas.

As I see it: 1. This will end up being a huge mistake by MS, after telling the world that win 10 would absolutely be the last OS
that they would produce and just keep on building on it they have now proven that not to be true.

2. Not that a lot of regular computer users rush out and buy the newest version of windows anyway, now they
have intentionally coded this version out of the reach of I am guessing 85 to 90+ percent of the computers
out there today.

3. And regardless of their posted requirements to even install win 11, there are ways around that also, question
then becomes future updates/security updates availability.

4. I was not a MS insider for this version so I cannot speak directly on its merit, however I expect just like all previous
versions of windows, this will end up being just another different candy coated shell over the inner workings of windows.

I have spent a few days researching to decide if I want to go to the trouble to do a incompatible hardware install and have decided
It simply is not worth my time.

Lots of articles appearing now where Win 11 is being loaded on unsupported PCs and MS will still provide updates

Out of 5 machines, I figured 2 would be unable to upgrade and 1 would be iffy - it's a fine development machine but has an older chip.

Turns out none of them can upgrade.

Well one possibly can, but requires BIOS changes that I'm not willing to mess with right now, especially since the machine is a data/automation processing box that is in use 24/7.

The last one is a dev laptop that when I bought it 2 years ago was advertised by Dell as their most powerful - and it was and still is a powerhouse of a laptop. I've seen numerous posts on various Dell user forums with groups of owners asking Dell to work with MS to get it certified for Win 11, especially since apparently Dell touted it in some literature as being somewhat futureproof.

I don't think I'm going to worry about any of it for now. The new OS will need several months to shake out the issues anyway.

I've got 4 systems that I could upgrade to 11...and yes I'd need to "hack" the registry on 2 of them to bypass the windows 11 compatibility check. Not a big deal for me to do but as it's been pointed out will those of us who do this be able to get all the patches and stuff that are inevitable with micky-soft operating systems...:) I can see micky-soft letting us get away with these mods but at some point I'll bet they say that's it...no more patches for you...:) I am debating on whether or not to buy/build a couple of new systems with the TPM module that's the culprit behind the OS upgrade fiasco. Once I retire I won't have the disposable income to keep buying newer systems just to keep up with the upgrades anymore. So I may just convert over to Linux and call it a day.

My newest build (2020) said it isn't ready because TPM 2.0 isn't enabled. All motherboards starting around 2016 has the chip, so I just have to figure out how to turn it on. It's in the firmware or bios I thing. LOL!

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I can realistically see MS allowing these work arounds on non hardware compatible systems to slide for now and would not be surprised
that those who do so find that any future upgrades to win 11 assuming they happen on non supported systems find their windows install
broken in the future.

Kind of like a lot of users with MS office 2010 and 2013 found that their office installs worked when they upgraded to win 10, only to find
several updates to win 10 later that different parts of their version of office no longer worked.

If I get real bored one day I might just force the upgrade for no reason other than to say I did and observe the procedure
and end results, otherwise I will be watching this closely to see what pans out.
