Ken, Thursday morning, which was the second day of practice my partner and I were fishing mid lake and damn if he didn’t spot a snake on his motor trying to get under the cowling. I knocked him off but he came back and eventually I had to sling him off the boat with a pair of pliers. He looked an awful lot like that snake. I couldn’t identify it but had Juvenille copperhead markings and swam on top of the water like a venomous snake. Damned if I know what it was but I wasn’t taking and chances. It almost has to be the same snake or his brother.

I was fishing with my partner on Sam Rayburn earlier this year. The lake was 10' high and we had been fishing in some flooded timber. About noon we decided to go back to Cassell Boykins and trailer to Lakeview for a burger. I pulled the boat out of the water and my partner started setting gear down in the boat while I put on the motor toter. I bent down behind the motor with the motor toter in one hand while I reached up with the other hand to raise the motor with the cowl mounted trim switch. When my hand got to the trim switch a 4' snake dropped out of the splash well and dropped on my feet. After a little dance and a jump back we watched the snake slither off into the woods. My partner does not like any snake. He refused to fish in the woods anymore that day. We have no idea how long that snake had been in the boat.
