You can call it a grasshopper made to look like an ear of corn. OR!!! You could call it a squid on the hunt with eight of it's ten arms out in front - ready to grab..... and the other two are reserved for self defense. Mox Nix to me..... Ok I could not stay away.....My surgery has been put on hold once again. Darn COVID!!! So at this point, I don't have anything to stop me from tying. Tying to me is therapy, allowing me to regain some of the dexterity in my hands through exercise. For the most part it can be pleasant, but it can also be panful in my hands and arms and difficult due to my bad eyesight at times. What gets me through it all? I have always been a goal setter. The Marine Corps instilled that way of thinking even further in me. I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman but to my Marines, "I was simply "Doc". Now the goal could be fairly easy or it could become extremely difficult and or may take an extended or Inordinate amount of time. When a goal is complete, I celebrate the accomplishment by coming up with a new goal to replace the one that is now done. In this case it is a goal of mine to tie an average of one fly each day for a year and I'm well on my way. I have been told I have a wild imagination that only comes out to feed when I attempt to initially do something artistic. Such as by hand wood carving, playing music with the instruments that I also build, rebuild, or craft. I'm also much more grounded than my typing may exude at times. I just get silly after a few Lone Stars on a clear night while sitting in a comfortable chair within my gazebo out back with a guitar near by........ and my dog at my feet. WAIT!!!!!! That would have been a Norman Rockwell moment if Norman Rockwell would have been a Texan....... LOL!!!!!

SteveBob: You're an inspiration to those of us that don't have the talent to tie flies like you do. I've made a few crude crab and spoon flies, but haven't caught any fish on them, as I'm just (re)learning to flyfish, after a 60-year hiatus. Also, I'm trying to learn to flyfish from my kayak, AND my flats skiff. Ah, yes, adult education is painful! Fortunately, I'm retired(ed), and have lots of free time to flail the bay waters. Maybe someday, I'll catch a fish. Maybe someday I'll buy the winning lottery ticket.
Looking at your flies, I wonder if any of them would glow in the canal dock lights? Some of them look like they would be lethal weapons there. My in-laws have a canal house rented for Thanksgiving, and I'm going to try to invite some trout and/or reds home for a hot bath and dinner!

IslandJim, I appreciate your kind words. I'm sure some of the flies I have tied would flash like lightning under dock lights. If you would like me to make you something that's both salt water capable and flashy, just leave me a private message and we can discuss details. I would welcome the project and the flies would be free to you.
