Fishing California with a buddy out there in the marine corp later this month

I’m gonna get the 2 day non resident license. Are there any other endorsements or stamps or anything I gotta get? Just gonna be bass fishing. I think Lake Murray?

Thanks. Never have fished out of state before, nonetheless commnifornia

Outside the major cities, you'll find most Californians a lot like Texans.

All you need is the non-resident 2 day inland fishing license.

Some lakes might have their own permits, but one license is all you need. If you were targeting Sturgeon or Spiny Lobster you’d need to get those report cards.

Right! I’ve been to Cali 3 times, and outside the major cities is similar to Texas people. I’ve just never fished out there. Gonna be in San Diego 27-31 this month

I’ll ask about if I need permit for Murray. Gonna be in his bass boat, not on the bank. Im excited to fish something new!

Just sent you a message. I recently moved back after being there for 6 years.

I currently live in Cali ( also have a property in Texas ) , specifically Northern California . We are in the third year of a drought -- so water conditions and lake access issues will be different for SoCal VS NorCal and most likely from lake to lake . If your heading to NorCal , you HAVE to fish Clear Lake , The Delta and Berryessa --- those are the three places for numbers and big fish . Delta can be a bit sketchy to navigate if you have never been there --- I would recommend a guide the first few times . Clear lake and Berryessa are relatively straight forward .

If you're fishing Lake Murray, it's best to rent a boat. Then head toward the dam and fish the breakers earlier in the morning. Then go the flat just opposite of the ramp. Dropshot Margarita Mutilator III 4" Roboworms or Folkstead special and hold on!

There's also some good boulders / rocks just to the left of ramp as you're launching. That has been good for me when we fished it.

I moved from CA in 2019 and fished that lake 2-3 times a year.

You only need your CA license and you'll need to pay the lake fee at the iron ranger or get there around 6-7 AM and they have a concession stand.

You are also close to San V, El Cap, and Lake Jennings. All 3 have some great fishing. But you need a boat to enjoy those lakes.

Many lakes in the area rent boats, but you'll need to bring your own trolling motor / battery for a few. Some are more prepared than others for fishing.

Have fun in my old stomping ground.

The first lake I ever fished on in my life was Murray. I was about 8-9 years old. Caught my first bass that day on a nightcrawler. Murray has some big ones and it's right in the heart of the city but my nephew who lives out there says that El Capitan has been fishing great lately and for bigger fish. May want to look in to it.
