When it comes to used pedal kayaks, seems like most serious guys would be upgrading their equipment.....buying a better kayak.

I see a ton of entry level kayaks out there on the water, but the classifieds are generally all Hobies, or Old Towns. On the rare occasion I catch a lower end pedal kayak, It's either sold, or Redneck engineered to death. But, seldom see any lower end kayaks. I search marketplace, kayak Facebook Groups, and scamlist....I mean Craigslist. Any place I'm missing? Looking for an entry level deal, just to see if I'll really like it. It will be used for Catfishing waters that are tough to navigate with my Pontoon.

Its hard to come by a used entry level for some reason. If you do its like what you mentioned or they are asking brand new prices because they added an anchor trolley or some other basic add on. There is a person out of Rowlett that sells new KI kayaks at a good price but I know there has to be some kind of catch to it. Either it be you cant get replacing parts or they are just cheaply made. I too have a big pontoon that I catfish out of but have been doing some out of the kayak as well and a pedal version would definitely get me to farther places. I have a Pelican Catch 120 that I got used and enjoy it but do want to upgrade next season.

There are lots of options out there for entry-level kayaks. It's hard to find them used. As for catfishing in a kayak, it's nice to have a boat you can throw a castnet from.

OP it's a sign of the times. The more expensive items (not just kayaks) are slightly more available than the more economical items on the used market. I know a month or so ago the Hoodoo Tempest 120 pedal drive was widely available and around $1200 new plus tax. The biggest knock I've heard on them is they don't turn great and are a wet ride when heading into chop but it's an entry level kayak so those things are acceptable to lots of folks.

That wouldn't really bother me either, the majority of places I'd be in it would be up in a creek arm, in a wooded area, so not much chop anyway. Only drawback for me is no dealers near me. Shipping would put it at more than the other new ones I've looked at. Even if I could find a used one, not much less than new, I'd still be saving the tax, and shipping which is 200-300 bucks. Just have to keep looking.

I keep talking to myself on getting a new Native, it man….I just can’t pull the trigger. Even if I could save $500 on a used one, I’d do it. I think people buy them thinking they will use them but are then to embarrassed to admit failure and won’t sell.

Hunting season is coming up. Historically, that is when kayak deals start popping up.

I got a Kayak Instruction pedal yak for under $1K used. Guy bought it new, took it out once and sat in the garage for almost a year. Great yak and no complaints. If I have any problems with it I can take it to the local dealer in Rowlett.

I'm officially a Kayaker now too. Found me a used Nucanoe Frontier10. It was decked out for the most part. Lowrance 5X DSI, Casting bar, bait cutting board, rod holders, carbon Visipole light with flag, anchor trolley, swivel seat, Sea to Summit kayak cart, battery box, and battery, and a 30lb trolling motor, with foot pedal steering and speed control, by the seat. Just had to build my own crate with rod storage, and get it registered. Still gotta add my green and red led nav lights.

900 bucks, and it's in excellent shape, even though it's a 2013

I will be selling it as soon as I get my title paperwork back from the state. It's just not for me. Too short, too heavy, and nowhere near as stable as I had hoped. Not unstable, just not rock steady.

You'll have a hard time finding a kayak more stable. Not many fishing kayaks are wider than 39". Stability is something you learn over time not something you should expect to have right off the bat. They are heavy but that's what you get with a wide kayak

Does it seem unstable when sitting or is it only an issue for standing? If it is a seated issue, you should look at removing that seat which has a lot of elevation. If you give up on that kayak, you should consider a 12’ aluminum Jon boat with a trolling motor.

I ordered my Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL on August 31, 2020. The dealer said I'd have to wait 1-2 months based on info from OT. I got it in the middle of October. Now my dealer tells me OT won't even give them a target date for delivery. OT is running three 8 hr shifts per day, 24/7 to meet demand and still cannot keep up. The few used Sportsman kayaks I've seen are being sold for new prices. Have you seen what car dealers are offering in trade-ins? Unbelievable. My son was offered $3000 more for his 2018 Tundra with 42K miles on it than what he paid for it!!!! Crazy times we're in and without waxing political here, I think I know why.

If I were to settle for a Pelican catch 10 footer, would I be horribly disappointed in it?
