Taking sort of a poll here:
Assume a plain vanilla bottom rig. Sliding egg sinker, swivel, some leader, and a #6 treble hook with dough (DK's, CJ's, etc.) on the end. From the bank, cast it out, stick the rod in a holder and wait.
What length leader would you use? Myself, I go with about 2 1/2 feet. I want to keep the bait away from that sinker/swivel and let the cat pick it up and get it in its mouth. What about you? How long a leader? Try to stay on topic, not veer off on hooks, baits, etc.
So, me - 2 1/2 feet (30")
Post! If we get enough replies, I'll make sort of a graph summarizing what everybody uses.

I am not a channel cat aficionado so the treble hook and the punch bait threw me off but...
I would think your 30" leader is about right. I tend to vary mine some shorter some longer. I don't go any longer that about 36" to 40" but will do some as short as 18" or so...

Moving water, close to the weight. I choose 6"-12" steel leader (depending on flow)with a slip egg sinker, 5/0 hook minimum, curved shank. In a lake, much longer mono leader from a 3-way swivel(8"+), 18" steel leader, very long straight shank hook( @least 6/0). In a lake, I want the weight at least a foot and a half from my bait.
I have had luck with shorter leaders in fast current.
Trinity river, late night fisherman here. The higher the water level, the shorter my leader.

18-24" in all situations seems to work for me.
