Medium. For those everyday 2-8 lb. channels, I think the 7' Ugly Stik GX2 spinning rod is perfect. It's light, strong, got good spine and that fiberglass tip is super-sensitive to the slightest nibble. And only $39.95 at Bass Pro. 30# braid, 12# Trilene XT leader (low-vis green), it casts a mile and you're good to go.

Lots of channel cat bites go undetected when using a rod with too heavy of an action. Then the claims about bait not staying on the hook start. Bait stays on fine , you just can’t feel it with that broomstick you are using
