Well I did it, I bought another boat. It has a Yamaha 4-stroke, I’m taking it to Marine Outlet this week to have them do a full-maintenance on the motor and inspect it. What are some other upkeep and maintenance things I should do on a routine bases?

Standard 4 stroke or SHO motor?
Really durable motors, the crab fishermen all run them here, those guys are six days a week, and run the snot out of their motors. They have so much slime and mildew on the cowling you can't see the decals.
Just keep an eye on your oil levels, make sure you never see a rise, that's about it, sometimes seals give up.

If it’s been sitting a while, replace every fuel filter.

I'd take it somewhere else for service ie. Texas Boat World.

@theduke, I am a little late to the party but curious how the inspection went. I have a 2005 Yamaha F150 4 stroke. I have done about every maint you can on it. Very easy to work on and so far has been outstanding. What year/ HP is your engine?

Mine is a 2004 115 and the checkup went well. The compression was 175-180 on all cylinders. The only thing that kind of worried me was the impeller had gotten hot at some point. They replaced it and the housing. Other than that all went well.

@Duke - Glad to hear it. the 115 and 150 have a few common parts. I would not worry too much about the impeller. by your description, my gut tells me it might have been started out of the water or someone did a poor job running on hose. I would not fret too much if nothing else showed during y our check. Compression is spot on. On thing I would recommend if the boat has been sitting is to get a new fuel filter and some spare fuel injectors. You can find them very inexpensive on Amazon. I keep one set in my boat and have one set cleaned once per year for like $50. Great engine you got there! good luck!

I thought I was the only one that carried a set of injectors and a 13mm socket in my boat. Hahah. Those F150’s are VERY sensitive to fuel atomization from the injectors. In fact, on my list for tomorrow is to pull the current ones, install the ready to go clean ones, and then clean to current set to have them as back ups. I just changed the impeller and all that goes with the kit. I know it was changed when I bought it. Mine was scorched a little too. I know I have “dry fired” my boat exactly two times in three years. For maybe 2-3 seconds each time. I don’t think it harmed anything.
