Hey yall.

What are your favorite campgrounds and why?

Looking for new/unique places to plan a trip to. For me I like tent camping, with an RV hook up is nice for some power. I like showers if possible and close access to fishing. If walking distance to the water all the better! Privacy and a remote "feeling" is great too. Asking a lot right?!

What sites do you love!? And why? What makes a great campsite for you? Would love to visit some of yalls favorite places!

We have a class A RV so we stay in that type campground.

One of my favorites. Lake Livingston SP, Piney Shore loop. It’s got full hookups and sits right on the water. There are also several primitive cabins.

If you’ve got a boat, there’s a ramp right there. There’s a concrete bulkhead and walkway along most of the bank. If you have a spot on the water side, it’s just a few steps away.

If you want to stay there (especially on the weekend), you need to make reservations several months in advance. I checked today and Monday-Thursday openings are late November.

Another place I really like is Goliad SP. They’ve got everything from primitive tent sites to full hookup, pull through sites. The park sits along the San Antonio River. There are a couple canoe launch places.

If you like Texas history and want to learn more about Texas Independence, this ground zero. There’s an old Spanish mission, Mission Espiritu Santo, in the park. Half mile away is an old Spanish fort, Presidio-La Bahia. There’s also an old Catholic Church, Our Lady of Loreto Chapel, General Zaragoza Birthplace, and Fannin Monument. Just a few miles up Hwy 59 outside Fannin, TX and the Fannin Battleground State Historic Site where Colonel Fannin and his Texian soldiers bravely fought and died fighting the Mexican army.

The Goliad town square has lots of quaint shops and eateries. In the middle of the square is the courthouse and the hanging trees. Back in the 1800’s, prisoners would be tried in the courthouse, found guilty, and immediately be taken outside to one of the hanging trees for execution.

Very cool little town.

Thanks Jimmy those spots both sounds great!

Very interested in Goliad. Love history and sounds like they have some shopping and things for women folk to do as well. Going to start looking into a trip there soon! This is really great had not heard of this spot. Very cool.

Another spot I have enjoyed in the past was the campgrounds at Crockett Lake in the Grasslands. I recall we had a spot that allowed us to bring the kayaks right up to the bank and step off into our campground. Its been some years but I think those were first come first serve as far as spot selection? Does anyone know if that is the case still?

Some of those spots were excellent and some were not so good. Would be a bummer to drive up there and end up with a poor spot because the waterfront ones were taken... guess there is no way around that? Just have to take the gamble.

South Llano Park below Junction if its not too far. And Lost Maples near Vanderpool. They might not be what you are looking for but both are gorgeous places.
