I am not sure about your Yamaha, but back in the day of Mercury carbureted motors there was a symptom you are describing. Everything checked out and the motor would function good at lower RPMs in the water or on a hose. All fuel, ignition and compression test were positive. Meter readings on the ignition components checked in the green. The culprit was always the stator. Change it out and the motor was cured. It was a baffling issue because everything checked out. Only conclusion was the stator broke down under load. Very hard to detect under normal test procedures.
If I read you posts correctly, you have ruled out any fuel issues. You have good compression. That only leaves ignition. Issues in this section of the operation can be tricky and very hard to find. Sometimes it is just a bad ground somewhere, or an internal issue in one of the components.
This may not be the issue for your motor. It just seems to be the same.

This may not be the issue for your motor. It just seems to be the same. I have, for the moment, set aside most of the fuel system and almost completely dismissed the fuel circuit from the antisiphon valve to the under-cowling filter bowl because I ran with a separate tank with the same symptoms. I have not ruled out the carbs completely though. I have begun to test the stator, all resistances check out on the stator and the trigger but waiting for a DVA tomorrow so I can test voltages. I did find something odd while examining the CDI unit (never opened it since I've had it). ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/pY3DuQ7l.jpg) This wire from the position sensor was severely pinched under the cover. I have repaired it. It's been running this way for at least 15 years so I think it probably had conductors intact but still was surprised to see it.

Problem has been resolved. The 1st boat mechanic/business owner didn't do the carb rebuild right. The 2nd one found that the 1st only disassembled and scraped inside with a screwdriver, but didn't replace jets or parts that come in the kits. Runs right now, has lots of new stuff.
