I always ask if they want help. But the only time I don't ask and just start helping them...is when I see someone casting out and reeling in with their rod upside down. roflmao

My boys and I helped a father a son a couple years back on Ray Hubbard. You could tell they were struggling. We were moving to a new spot so I pulled past the, and they confirmed they were having a tough day. I had my boys raise their rods and showed them what we were using. I suggested to them on what to do. The boy got super excited, and said he had a lure like that. We saw them later in the day and the boy had caught 4.5 lb large mouth. You could not wipe the smile off his face.

I always ask if children are present and not catching. Would you feel insulted if I offer to help. Have never been turned away, whether reworking crappie gear to slabs and or dead sticking jigs and flukes.

With folks like Mudshark, and Steez out giving advice, it's no wonder kids are having a difficult time learning fishing.
We need more Dads, uncles, and just regular guys helping kids to learn.
Dads don't always have the time, and when they do, maybe fishing just takes too much energy.
See a need, pitch in and offer to help.
that's my humble opinion,

it's usually a pride issue...when you try to share good advice or truth with someone, reminds me of a parable... Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Always take the time to share with people... clap

Nope... I'm against any and all attempts to "grow the sport"... Should've told them to get the kids on the succer field... Dan

Unsolicited advice is a great thing. I used to know a place on the brazos where the guy owned property and would rent it out to fisherman. I really had no clue what I was doing back then. I met a guy down there one night and he was across the river from me fishing. Around 10 oclock that night I hooked into a big "fish" and they came across the river to help me out with landing it. Turned out it was a huge softshell turtle somewhere around the 20 pound range, The next morning we got to talking more during the day and he flat out said to me "you have no idea what you are doing" and I agreed. That evening he came over and showed me how to rig up and even brought me some live goggle eye perch. From that day on we were good friends. Today I consider him one of my best friends. He is a brother to me. Our friendship is much more than fishing and hunting.

I never give unsolicited advice to a fisherman I do not know. Period.
