Went out for a quick trip this morning before work to see if crappie were still in the same spots and liking the same jigs. No change, at least not for the worse. Caught fish quickly on each of the brush piles I checked.

I see these black spots on a lot of crappie here. What is this ?

Good looking fish, Ron. White crappie will commonly have those black spots on them. While black crappie are much more prevalent in CC than the whites, there are starting to be more and more white crappie hit the cleaning table.

I believe the fish you're holing in your hand is a hybrid cross of both.

Yup it is pretty pronounced on white crappie and I believe it is a false eye to make them look bigger to predators. Do any dock shooting?

I tried dock shooting when I first moved here from my kayak. Couldn't get the hang of it after a couple of trips trying. I've been catching plenty of crappie on brush piles so I've just stuck to that for the last couple of months.
