I hope I’m not duplicating a post but my device signed me out on my first attempt .
Hello everyone,
I’m new to Lake Bastrop and been trying to scout it out in between boat repairs. Looks like I’m ready to fish regularly finally.
I’ve caught bass but want to find the catfish and crappie. The other day I found timber in Boy scout cove and it looks promising. It has shallow and 18’-20’ water. Does anyone know about this area or another spot this time of year?
We’ve had our first cool front and I’m planning on going tomorrow. I have punch bait and will pick up some worms. Also I have my homemade chum that’s worked well in other lakes.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need some fish in the freezer. It’s been a long time.
Thanks: Doug

Update: I went back to the area today and couldn’t find a place deeper than 13’. Just not cool enough yet I guess. I’m learning about fishing a power plant lake. Although the water has cooled down about 10 degrees from the other day but still 80 degrees. I heard it’s supposed to be good for catfish at night around the north shore. I haven’t rigged the boat for night yet but I know how to get by.

Bastrop isn't a deep lake but it has areas deeper than 13 feet, trust me.

Be safe,

Sorry I’m just now getting back to the forum. Tree fell on my boat amongst other things. Boats back on the water now. When I made the 13’ comment I was referring to the creek I was checking out. I still haven’t found any catfish on the lake though.
