I guess I need to be in the wedding event business. The amount of money thrown at them is ridiculous.

It's a drop in the bucket compared to college...

College doesn't have to be that expensive either. I went to a community College a couple years and then finished at a university for less than a lot of these weddings! Worked during school and had my loans paid off within the first year out of school.

Edit: I just looked up the cost of tuition at UT Arlington and I am shocked at how the rates have nearly doubled since 10 years ago.

If you funded her college education that resulted in a good paying job, that should be sufficient. Let her and "hubby to be" pay for the wedding. 2cents

Yep. The kids are paying crazy figures, but it is a Texas Tier 1 and R1 school now...and still one of the most reasonably priced 4 year schools around.

I spent 25k on my youngest, and about 15k on my oldest. Different kids, different weddings. My youngest had 120 -130 people and we had it at the vineyard in McKinney. The venue was by far the most expensive of everything.

For our wedding, we footed the bill. We flew out to Vegas for a long weekend. Money well spent.

so, you're brain washing her (Kidding!)

Two girls. One UTD then Texas Tech for Law School. The other OU then SMU for law school.

The last expenditure for a child is the wedding. We had a choice to help or not. Wife would have divorced me if we didn't. Taking that into account the wedding was cheaper.

This is like anything else, those that have the money throw great weddings, those who don’t complain about why it’s stupid or you don’t need it. The American way

I'm glad I will never have to deal with this problem.

believe me, I have considered this, my wife and her buddy that we used as our event planner would crush it.

It's one of those emotional events, like a funeral, that people overspend on. I believe my wife had her wedding dress vacuum sealed and it has been sitting in the attic at MIL house for 28 years..... we have looked at wedding pictures exactly zero times since we got them back. Its a bunch of money that is gone like a fart in the wind.
