I concur. I think my marriage license was $25.00 and I tipped the JP $100.00. About 9 minutes I was just as married as if we spent a million on a wedding. I asked my wife at my sisters wedding, it was 30K in 1997 if she wished we had gone that route. He77 NO was the response I got. I reminded my dad that night that he had always told me growing up not to be wasting money. I didn't get a reply.

Oh Good Grief
Mine just turned 18, I don't even want to think about it. Hopefully I'm 10 or more years out before I do.

Thankfully my daughter was frugal and did not want the "best." We had to force a lot of it upon her. In fact, we did not give her a set amount to spend because she would've spent about $1,000 on the wedding and wanted to put the rest in savings (and we wanted her to have something more she could remember). This couple could probably teach Dave Ramsey a thing or two about saving. Still, here's what I remember - all of these are estimates from what I can recall, so forgive me if I'm off) Venue - $7500 Dress - $2000 Flowers - $3500 Food/Drink - $5000 (and there was no alcohol!) Photographers - $2000 Cakes and misc - $3000 And ignorant me thought the dress would be the expensive part!!

call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

Did this for older daughter, younger one is pretty well in also. We'll do the Wedding at the house, big fish fry, lot's of food, good times had by all. Here's Ten grand for your house down payment.
Or you can poodle it away for one day.

Wife and I spent $25K on our oldest. Youngest just wants the cash. I bet the young one is the smartest.

I am gonna suggest they take the dollar amount I offer, take a nice little trip and get married , come back I'll have a nice dinner party for everyone and they put the rest down on a house. Those things get out of hand and it's not just the daughters it's the mothers that cause it. My BIL spent 100k on one. She married into a prominent family in Houston but come the f on. It was just stupid.

My sister and her husband told my niece and nephew when they started college, that they would pay for their college, but weddings and such would be up to themselves when the time came. Their theory being we just paid $60,000 - $100,000 for your education and now you can afford your own life.
My niece and her husband spent about $35,000 on their wedding that's coming up in a couple of weeks. They actually got married in a small ceremony last October, but due to Covid, they rescheduled the larger event to this year. The wedding venues, caterers, etc. were all kind and very cooperative. For a wedding gift, my sister did give them $5,000.

One of the girls I used to work with got engaged at her college graduation. Her parents gave her like $50,000. She thought that was just a graduation present, turned out it was also to cover her wedding....she could have it as large or small as she wanted, but that's what she had to spend.
