These river bass I've been fishing for over the last few weeks really like a conventional spinnerbait like the original Beetle spin. But the challenge for me is to catch these bass and other fish with the fly rod. J-Moe and I have been using simple clousers all summer to catch whitebass and hybrid stripers in the Lake Somerville spillway tailrace with one modification that made a big difference in the catch rate. That modification is to add a spinner blade to the underside of the clouser to make it a "coyote" clouser much like the conventional jig called a roadrunner. In the moving water of the river the added spinner blade makes a noticeable difference to the fish and my catch rate..
