Lately been running into some mega schools of gar in the really good spots.. Still catching fish, but I have seen things shut down a skosh.. Just curious what you have experienced. Do you pick up and go when you see them, or just hunker down and keep at it. Been catching the usual fish, but it sure makes me wish I had a Bow when I see them.. There is much bait, so i know they are going to work them. These are mainly larger spot tail, and some alligator gar in the 3ft range. Lake is Grapevine. Searched thread but did not see anything, if I missed something just let me know where it is..

Anyhoo, thanks for any thoughts.

I carry my bow w me. If they slow down the bass fishing I get to have some fun and they pay the price….

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

I don’t mind bass fishing around Gar, but if I see carp, I’ll move along.

My partner pulled up on a spot covered up on gar. First cast I caught a #6. Nothing after that though. I'd rather not fish with them around though.

A gar is fine, 100 or so spawning in a small areas is not good.

Happens every year in the summer at Fayette out on the good offshore points and it slows down the bass fishing significantly. This is probably a little different as it’s a power plant lake and water temperatures are around 100. Gar rolling and surfacing by the hundreds.

Gar are our friends; they are natural predators of the grass carp and Asian carp.
