9/17/2021: I took my boat over to RC again - this time to take golfing buddy Mike out on his home lake to catch some fish for the freezer. We began at !0 AM, and it started out slow. We checked out White House Point, then Wind Point, then Pelican Island area, then some drop-offs from the 287 flats, but found no fish. So, I went to Windsock, looked really hard, and finally found a few near the north end of it. We started catching some, but the fish kept moving. I would move to find them, catch 1 or 2, and they would move again. Repeat and catch 2 or 3 more. After about 3 hours of this, we had 18 white bass and a catfish. We got tired of the slow action, and went to check out some structures near the dam and more spots where the 287 flats drop off into the deep - but nada fish. So, we went back to Pelican Island, located some of the old airport building foundations there, and saw some fish around them. We started catching white bass and took our count to 44. We also caught 3 hybrids 23, 22, and 21 inches in size, and had another pull off. We also caught another cat and a keeper yellow bass for a total of 50 fish caught for the day. We quit at 6 PM still catching fish. The trip was one of the hardest of the year to find fish. Mike at his dock. The fish:

Dennis, RC fishes tough most years as we end Summer and begin Fall. We moved to Catfishing last week after a couple of trips like you described. Prediction is that the Whites & Hybrids will be caught off the Flats after this next Cool Front! Good Luck and Good Fishing!

Thanks, Royce. September is always the most difficult month of the year for catching white bass in North Texas lakes. Having said that, I like the challenge of finding and catching them even now. I know some guides go to trolling the hell-pet rigs for their clients. I just hate trolling, so I downsize to a #2 Mepps (and this year even a #1 Mepps) and am able to catch them. Thanks for the tip on where they will be after the cold front comes in!

Does anyone have a map that shows where these (and more) places are for RC.....something similar to what Dennis Christian made for Cedar Creek?

I was about to ask the same thing. This will be my home lake in 2 years and I am trying to learn the lake before I move there.

You may not like my response, but the best way to shorten the learning curve on learning a 45,000 acre lake is to hire a guide. We've been fishing the lake since 1994 and fulltime as Licensed Guides since 2000. We encourage learning/catching trips and don't mind if you bring your GPS. We do several of these every year as new folks move to the lake and find out how intimidating a large lake with timber, structure, local names like "Windsock", etc. can be. Quite a few of these folks become regular customers and now use us to learn Seasonal Patterns, how to catch different species and also to entertain their guests, kids and grandkids. We can provide references if you like. We fish year around and everyday except Sunday. If we can be of service, check us out at www.gonefishin.biz and give us a call at 903-389-4117. Good Luck!

^^^^I would spend some time with Royce. I moved to RC in 2013 and fished the lake 2-3 times a week for 3 years. Looking back, I wished I would have hired a guide to shorten the learning curve. I spent a lot of time on the water and learned it myself but hiring someone would have got me catching more fish sooner.

Like any lake, the darkest contour lines = structure - on RC make great places to start. Download the Navionics app and mark these or use your GPS fishfinder. Actual mileage may vary!
