I fished Texoma Sunday using my thumper for striper and ended up in Kitty City! The first stop we marked a school of what we thought would be striper but ended up with a mess of catfish. I usually catch 2-3 per trip but this time we ended up with 17 catfish and 13 striper! Time for some catfish nuggets! https://youtube.com/shorts/MYrNxaIXvY4?feature=share

I bought a thumper last year, just for fun. We took it out on Fork in 25-30 feet of water near the opening of one of our favorite coves and fired her up. First time we ever used it, had two Humminbirds on, one on the front one on the back and the screens were empty. In about 5 minutes we saw some fishes crossing the screens,...10 minutes more and more. We threw out some minnows on the bottom and started catching 6-8 in yellow bass, and 10-12 in catfish. 20 minutes the screens were really showing a lot of fish... we caught 25-30 fish, mixed yellow bass and catfish.. I bought it to chase sandbass but seems like they have almost disappeared on Fork...but my thumper draws in fishes,...jim

I went from being a mediocre fisherman (skunked half the time) to almost never skunked thanks to my thumper…. I just always use it for Sandbass hybrids and striper. I catch a ton of little blue cats in Texoma and other lakes because they will respond and school but they are always bycatch. This week was different for sure! If you like catfish, I think Texoma is going to be epic for them! I usually catch way more striper than cats but with the shad kill this year and the abundance of bait, they seem to be getting bigger and more plentiful!

This exposes me to Wyatt when I tell him he can't jump all over the boat. If the thumper calls in catfish, I don't need to buy one. I have a Texas Tornado!

We’re gonna have every fish in the lake thumped under the boat come Sunday Tim! Twin Tornados thump’n up a storm of fish by the names of Action Jaxon and Wyatt the Riot. I’ve fished with a thumper and I prefer peace and quiet when fishing. Sure glad I don’t need one to catch fish!

I first heard of "thumping" in a Yankee fishing mag back in like 97 and they were using the technique for channel cats. At that time it was just a guy thumping an oar on the bottom or side of a boat. They swore it worked... I read with great skepticism.
Many years later on Cedar Creek I got to see one in action for the first time. We rolled up on spot looking for hybrids and sandies. All graphs showed nothing where we stopped. The thumper was turned on and within 10 minutes the screens were filled and so where the coolers.
I was still chalking it up to coincidence and shared my thoughts... my boy turned the thumper off. And guess what? Within 5 minutes not a fish on a screen and no bites. Went on like that until he turned it back on and within minutes yeah the fish were back and we were catching.
Not sure why, but they work and far as I can tell it maybe started with catfish.

My guide buddy on Texoma just has a small trolling motor mounted on the transom that is set up as a splasher. I think it serves the same purpose as the thumper. Personally, that thing pounding on the bottom of the hull would give me a headache!

Thumpers and thumping create vibrations similar to striper or catfish attacking schools of bait underwater. Splashers work by creating splashing imitating fish hitting shad on the surface. Both are extremely effective for attracting fish to your boat. I have thumper in schools of striper, cats and seen both fish mingle together to chase shad. I don’t normally catfish but have plenty of luck attracting and catching schools of catfish. If the thumper gets irritating, I put it in a compartment and problem solved! I catch way more fish using one than I ever did without one!
