If the entire country would say, "Okay, we've all had a chance to make whatever decisions we feel are best so as of Monday morning at 6 a.m. eastern time all restrictions are lifted, no mask mandates will be allowed, and we are opening everything wide open" Covid would run its course and we would reach herd immunity shortly. Texas is headed that way now. New cases are on a steep decline.

Why do I get the feeling that some politicians don't want herd immunity and an end to Covid as a major factor in American life?

I refuse to call it a jab instead of a shot. I think they floated the jab terminology out there for the masses to not think of it as a shot.

Steep decline? We had the highest number of cases in a long time yesterday. There was a decline previous days due to the holiday, but there hasn't been a steep decline.

We had the highest number of cases because four days of data were dumped on one day. The 7-day average of daily cases has dropped from 19,200 to 8,300 from September 1 to September 8.

With 50% of Texans vaccinated added on top of all the people who have had Covid we have to be nearing the point that somewhere around 70% of our population has antibodies. Once all the wood on the campfire burns to ashes it can't keep flaming up. Covid can't keep running rampant once it starts running out of potential hosts.

I didn't say it is over or that people can't still get it. You're just as dead if you die on the last day as the first day of the pandemic, but with an R-value at around .8 and dropping the virus can't sustain itself indefinitely.

My area too. While the number of case have somewhat leveled off (mainly due to lack of test kits available) they are still having more new cases per day than any time in the pandemic here. Most we had before August was 41 new cases in the county. We have been running 150-230 new cases per day for a couple weeks. Went from 15-20 in the hospital to over 110 in the hospital. Deaths? We were maybe having 1 a week, now we are having 3 per day and had 13 deaths the past 2 days including a 1 year old.

The population of the US is 3.3 billion with 603k deaths due to covid (cumulative and over a year ago).

More people die monthly due of heart disease, cancer, and auto accidents (independently). Auto's kill 3 times what covid does.

I believe covid is real and can be very bad for a few but to give it this much time, energy, and dollars to does not make sense. I don't wish this on anyone but why does everyone freak out about this?

A year and a half after we saw NY, Seattle, and every other major city build tent cities that never treated anyone, everyone is still talking about this like it is the plague. Remember the video's of China welding people in their home? The US Mercy in Husdon Bay? The refrigerated trucks at NY hospitals for all the dead? Now we're still scared.

Why aren't prisons killing all the people inside like nursing homes (which you never hear about any more)?

Call me when we have a pandemic with 25% plus mortality rate and not one that is less than 1% (or even 2% depending on the recording source). This is getting silly.

Testing the last couple weeks nationwide is actually increasing significantly, double what it was a couple months ago. Positivity rates have hovered around 10% for quite some time now. You test twice as many people you get twice as many cases. Can’t focus on total cases unless you normalize to total tests performed.

Life is become like the TV show fringe or X files.
