First time in years I have not made an opening day season hunt.. Stuck in store..

But my brother was at the ranch (Devine, Texas) and had about five buddies over and they smoked the whitewings.. Everybody got a limit..

I'm headed there this weekend and hoping they are still around.. And if they are I'm gonna [censored] them up.. There are thousands of acres of dove weed west of us.. Should be food for months..

Get on that airplane Beartrap.. I got a Mesquite tree for you..

Pigeons are very fun to shoot.

And good to eat too.

Joined a season lease south of Lubbock. Supposed to have 3 fields for lease members only. One field is split in half with west 80 acres for lease hunters and east 80 for day hunters.

Shot 15 mourning and 7 collared doves opening day.

Then went out Saturday and the lease hunter field was packed with dayhunters. Hung around for 30 mins and it was clear the Outfitter burned that field up 3 days in a row. I was not too happy, especially after being lectured about staying out of the east side of the field.

So i went to another field. My son and i shot 45 in an hour with only 6 being mourning doves, the rest being collared doves. We left at 5:30 with them still flying.

Went Sunday and we were mostly letting my daughter shoot. We passed on a ton of birds trying to get her to shoot and we left with 23.

Went back Monday with just my daughter and we shot 12.

Could have had 30-40 Sunday and Monday but it was all about getting my daughter comfortable with the wingshooting.

She picked up the gun on several but only shot a few times. Once she gets over the hesitancy, i have a feeling she may be a better shot than her brother. She only shot 4 times Sunday and killed 2. Monday she shot 8 times, killed 3 and hit 2 others. Said she is hesitant to waste shells, told her she is the only dove hunter that has ever been concerned about that.

Anyone remember the days when you could take your shotgun to high-school, then drive around shooting doves off the hi-lines afterwards?

Yessir-
Many of us had our guns in the gun rack of our pickups the whole year.
Sometimes hunted before school and after school-

Haven’t been to the lease yet. I’ve been in Alaska for the past week shooting ducks and catching silvers. I’m sure it’ll be loaded up.

Hunted 300 acres in Robert Lee West Texas on opener. Usually we load up but only killed about 10 between the 6 of us. Need a good northerner to blow some down - as usual.

He sent me this picture of his daughter, and Nickbyrd said they didn’t have a whole lot of luck. But I don’t think that really matters too much, pictures like this are what matters.

Hunted Saturday and Sunday in Llano. Killed a few cases of cold beer between the group....zero dove. Didn’t hear much shooting either.
