Just curious as to what kind of battery you use for your fish finder. I'm thinking about putting my front finder on it's own battery. My average usage is about 2 or 3 hours so I don't really need a big one. Will a motorcycle or mower battery work?

Good question. I’m trying a 5mah AGM to start with. 4x4x3 inch size. I found an old eagle 320 in my fishing cabinet. Might want to check a Batteries Plus location. They have always been very helpful. Good luck and tight lines!

Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.

Slim1,

Depending on which fish finder you use battery life will vary. I used the academy deer feeder battery's for years 12v 7ah https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/game-winner-12v-7-ah-feeder-battery-126599442?sku=12-v
On a typical hot summer day I'd get about 5-6h on my Lowrance 7ti. I switched to this Lithium Ion and haven't ran out of juice on the water yet. 12V 12Ah LiFePO4 Battery Pack, Deep Cycle Rechargeable Lithium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GSJJV6Y/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_H9WCJHGSDKK3ZCG18MCJ

The motorcycle and mower battery's will work. Some of those are heavier than the deer feeder battery's if weight is an issue.
Any 12v battery will work the AH rating will tell you how long it will run. A 7AH battery will run 1 amp draw for 7 hours, 3.5 amp draw for 2 hours, and or amp draw for 1 hour ect. I prefer deep cycle since I run the batteries lower then charge them back up they are designed to handle that type of use. VS your car starter battery typically doesnt get run down, it gives you a 550 amps of cranking power start the engine then immediately gets charged back off the cars alternator.

Thanks for the info. Now I know which way to go. The Lithium Ion sounds like the way to go.

I may go to lithium next time around but have never run out of juice with this one I've been using for three years and run it 8 to10 hours each time out.
