Gents, my team is setting up a small event for about 10-15 kids to fish out at marine creek lake. The theme is, Cops and Bobbers (pun intended). Our plan is teaching them to fish along with having a positive interaction with youth. I have a couple of weeks to plan still and we are going to fish from the shoreline. I was planning on baiting the area ahead of time which would not be hard to do since I work nearby. How many days out should I start baiting and is this a daily thing? I have heard of using range cubes. If I do would it be more effective to set out a burlap sack full or to go out each day and sling some out in the same spot? If anyone has a bucket of their finest mush and are in the fort worth area, I would be interested in purchasing that from you. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

That is a great plan! Range cubes every day as Catfish train easy. Broadcast them all along the area y’all intend to fish and there will be plenty of action for the kiddos. The further in advance you chum the better they train. Good luck and post some pics of the event!

That's great as El Gato said range cubes work well. I cut the end out of a cheap plastic baseball bat and that gets them out a little better. Good Luck

Range cubes is the easy way to go. If you have 2 weeks I would throw out 5 pounds along the bank every other day until the week before. Then everyday 4 days before the event. Do not feed really heavy the night before the event and throw out a couple of handfuls during the event if you are not catching anything.

You could even throw a rod out with range cubes as bait the day of the event to have a chance at a big fish for the kids to see. Here is a video on how to rig the cubes.

Just FYI to keep cost down.
Attwoods and tractor supply are both off 199 will send the range cubes.
But if you are closer to Blue Mound (off 820) head south from the freeway past the railroad tracks headed in route towards meachum. Keep your eyes peeled to the left for a wholesale grain company. They will sell to the public, great folks and take a couple empty trash bags incase they have opened or ripped bags.
They used to give those away for a buck or so

Another trick I've used is using canned sardines or herring, packed in water. Just get the cheapest you can buy and about an hour before fishing, punch about 10 holes in the top with an ice pick and throw it out to about where your bait will be. Sometimes it helps to tape a golf ball-sized rock to the bottom of the can to help it sink straight down. This can really help bring in the cats. They can smell it but they can't find it, so they zigzag all over the place looking for it. Be sure you get the ones packed in water; that disperses scent better than oil, which just floats to the surface.

Cans of cat food. Punch holes with a screwdriver a day or so before. Tie them off, so that the can may be retrieved when done. Cheap bankline should do the trick. Chum lines have to be gear tagged just as any other fishing gear in texas. Name, phone number, date placed in water. Currently, set lines must be retrieved in 6 days of placement.

Edit* what bait will you be using, fishing top or bottom? I use cut bait, worms and chicken gizzard primarily, fishing bottom to mid water- this method works for me and my style
