The weather service says we are heading into a La Nina pattern. La Nina is the name given to the weather pattern highlighted by warmer than normal pacific ocean currents that have a predictable effect of the North American winter. Basically we are setting up for a warm dry winter. Now, after last winter, I'll take warm and dry, but... What will that mean for blue cat fishing this trophy season? Last year it was difficult to pattern the fish because the weather was constantly in transition. If we can look forward to a stable weather pattern, what ever it is, I think that will be good for the fishing. As long as its not too warm or too dry, I think it should be good for everyone who is looking forward to chasin the blues! All that said, the Farmer's Almanac has things a little different. They are saying flip flop weather and below normal temps. I guess time will tell who is right. One thing is for sure though, I'm gonna be fishin either way! God Bless and Tight Lines Y'all...

A simple flip of the coin is as accurate as these weathermen. Warm mild winter and the fish will be spread out again like last winter and we’ll be grinding every trip for big fish again this year. If that’s the case then I have a good feel for the screwy patterns we had last winter. Consistently catching a few each trip if we can locate them but less likely to have those epic trips of 10-12 toad days. Mild winter allows me to bring my son all winter again which I love.
The other side of the coin we get lots of cold fronts and fish will concentrate making for some epic trips but nasty north fronts means leaving my son at home more which I really don’t like. Big north fronts can also bring on some nasty terrible trips for us weekend fisherman as we are forced to either fish unfavorable conditions or sit at Home as the fronts hit. It is what it is and it will be what it will be. I’m with you Tim in that I will be out there chasing them every chance I get no matter what the conditions are.

I think "No-Eyes" said it best. She said, "Summer, Winter, All Mix Up".
The Weather forecasters last winter was saying it would be a warmer & drier winter (2020-2021). Obviously, somebody looked at something terribly wrong. Nothing dried up for sure around here & then we had ice bowl week in February 2021. Some of our cedar trees look like they were decimated (or sheered).

I read this thread and realize I still have no freakin clue about weather and fish patterns! That said I’m retired, and I haz a boat! My plan to snag me a (blue) lake monster is as follows: 1) fish 2) more fishing 3) even more fishing Brute force and ignorance, and time on the water hopefully for the win.

I remember one year they claimed El Niño would cause one weather pattern and when it turned out to be totally the opposite they still blamed El Niño.

I only trust Hopalong and his assistant Yanet when it comes to forecasting the weather! IMO……
