Lots of fish are going to be deep for a good while yet. As they move shallow, shad imitating baits are good. Traps are very good. I throw lots of topwaters in the fall especially buzzbaits.

I tend to move back in the creeks, I start at the secondary points and go further into the creeks. What I have found that catches me some bass are, square bill cranks in the 7 to 10 foot range. I usually throw my Spro’s that give me a tighter wobble. I will always have a flipping and swimming jig on deck when I get around good cover or lay downs. If I’m find more are more suspended and staying further away from the bank, I will throw a chatterbait and let it sink to the depth they are suspended and slow roll it back. When you get back far enough into the back portion of the creeks, I will start throwing lip less cranks like a Rat-LTrap. If non of that works, I sit down and make me a banana sandwich and relax.

The best thing about fall fishing is that Idiot Boater Season starts to wind down. School is in session and the water begins to cool. Once we get it cold enough to cause hypothermia a lot if the wake boarders and jet skiers will move on to other activities where they can endanger and annoy people on land.

I think most everyone would agree that its pretty tough fishing.. The shad are about an inch long and there are billions of them everywhere. Its really hard to compete with that. I haven't found anything that consistently works. sorry BD

Underspins and spinnerbaits with skirts other than white or white/chartreuse. Add some purple in there and it will still look natural but will stand out among the other millions of baitfish. I have found it’s about being the same but different. Looking natural but setting yourself apart so you increase your chance of getting bit

I have found that especially in the fall that the wind is your friend! Pay very close attention to the way it’s blowing and how it’s hitting a shore line., a constant wind for several days out of the south will pile bait up in a area. The fish will get super shallow in the fall on nice days. After a big wet cold front I target the creek channels and drains with timber. Sq. Bill, spinner bait, swim jig are my go to’s. Other baits catch them too.

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year to fish. The lakes are less busy and the fish are feeding heavy. The notion that the fish move to the back of the creeks, although somewhat true, is the biggest reason a lot of people struggle that time of year. Some fish will move back with some shad, but the majority of the fish and shad stay on the main lake. We fish deep drains with crankbaits and Arigs in 20-25’ that are filled with shad and have a lot of 50-100 fish days in October and November doing this.
