If I cant be is South TX, I’ll bring STX to me. Last Spring my 225 “sprung” a leak, no fun, had to get rid of it and also replace my floor from the water damage. Thankfully, I have a small Koi pond outside around 1,000gl, I put all my aquarium fish in the pond while my floor was fixed and a new 240gl was being built. Sometime during those 4 weeks, my Rios spawned in the pond, and there were a lot. I have given over a 20 of those to fellow TFF’s, and some to friends. They grow fast, mature enough to spawn after 1 year of being born. The big fish is the parent of the little fish, and they just had a successful spawn. Very impressed with the resilience of this fish, they are bosses in my tanks and have pushed all my other fish into only 1/3 of the aquarium. Almost all those fish are much bigger than the small Rio. The Rio in second pic is a different fish from the mating pair.

that peacock is one helluva pretty fish... i was thinking of getting a larger SA/CA cichlid for my 75, but we'll have to see. I'm thinking either the green texas or a JD and a GT. glad to see fellow aquarists on the forum!

Rios are a very close knit family. Both the male and female protect their nest and their young from eggs to after hatch. Rios are very territorial especially during the spawning season. They also do not get along with other fish. They are truly AWESOME fish to watch and catch. thumb

Side Note: Nice Rios Andrew and glad you got your aquarium back in order . cheers

Cool tank! I guess the Koi pond gave the Rios the habitat needed to start raising a family, and they didn't miss the opportunity! They are probably looking forward to more "pond privileges" in the future!

That’s a Fogo Peacock, I found him at a fish store in FL.
Post up some pics of your tank.

Thanks Chuck. The fact that they are successfully breeding in a predator tank with a bunch of bigger fish,
wows my mind.

Nice tank, Drew.

I recently added a bass and a couple tilapia to my tank.

The tilapia eat anything I throw in there and have doubled in size! The bass doesn’t like anything so it’s been on a night crawler diet.

Anything you can think to try?

This is from a couple months ago.

Tom, I have run into fish not adjusting to the program, Bass included, good thing is, you have other fish feeding so the Bass is watching and seeing what to do. Sometimes not feeding for 3/4days will give them the starving feeling, then any soft food should start to work. Thawed Shrimp is the best imo, but could also try Tilapia/Silversides or cast net some shad/minnows, cut them into pieces if they are too big. Not sure how you feel about feeding Tilapia to Tilapia so that’s up to you, haha. Try holding off on the worms for a few days and introduce something else, know Bass can be tough to train on to pellets, especially LMB. My SMB eats Massivore Delight pellets really well, but prefers soft food. Just introduced a Spot on Friday and it hasn’t eaten yet. Will update on that when it happens. Tank looks good my friend cheers
