Lets start with that i do not know what the vegetation is. But it is spreading in the lake in large patches. Is this good or bad for the fishes health? To thick to drive through and i would hate to drive into during a night fishing .

First we need some pictures of it to help determine what it is. If it is Giant Salvinia, you have a big problem on your lake.

Take a good close picture of it laying in your boat. Generally grass if great for the fish.
 I hate photobucket.
