Last few weeks i've been hitting brush piles. I can see lots of fish on the pile. But once I catch one, that's it. I change baits, i go from plastics to crankbaits, change colors. And nothing? Any ideas?

Subtle unobtrusive approach. Don’t start by knocking heavily on and in the pile.
Crankbait around the brush pile first. Then something that swims just over it, ticking it.
Then trig/jig in it. Finish with something more finesse like a shaky head.

Other possibility is that you catch one and the school follows the caught fish out of the pile and toward you

So if the school follows the fish out, do they go back to pile sooner than later?

They will go where the bait they are feeding on goes.

Don't release the first fish you catch off the pile.

I start off by getting hung up in the pile on my first cast. Reeling down to the stuck hook and swish my rod back and forth until I free the lure. After that, I cast as far from the pile as I can with deep diving crank baits.

You should fish the BASS Opens.

idle over the top of the pile and then take off just like you did when they called your number at tournament blast off. Run about 50 yards and shut it down, troll back over very quietly and start picking them off one by one using a sweet beaver.

Made my day. Other day I was fishing a stump on the way in at a private lake in a jon boat. I know this last stump holds fish. First cast wacky gets hung up on the stump. F'it. Throw my t-rig up there and get hammered. What does she do? Swims my hook right into a root. Now I'm trying to steer this jon boat in the wind with 2 lines out and hung. Kill me.

Sometimes, I fight a fish for two minutes until I figure out I’m just hung up in the trolling motor. Every turn of the blade feels like a fish surging away from me.
