The weather report looked good to me, cloudy and not too hot, so I headed out to Canyon lake this morning. Lots of fish jumping starting with sunfish around 7:30 and then gar and I think carp after that. Several big splashes this morning. The ones that weren't gar were either carp or bass, but I couldn't tell which and they wouldn't bite. Lots of fish feeding in the weeds. I managed to catch a bluegill, white bass and a small LMB and lost another little LMB right at the boat. A couple other bites and that was it. I tried fishing in the river channel and every cast was caught on weeds or flooded trees. Those trees have tons of branches and are almost impossible to get unstuck from so I lost a lure before giving up on that part. Then there was a downpour, but it didn't help the bite either. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/08/full-113185-109302-240748542_10158802024913172_4508276123089671624_n.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/08/full-113185-109303-240725431_10158802023153172_2487763124960925799_n.jpg)

Thanks for sharing. I appreciate reading your reports. I've never fished Canyon before. I'll get there one day.

IS THAT GRASS....growing in Canyon. Over the years I have seen some small patches in Jacobs Creek and the Islands, but it seems to die off. I would love to see some Hydrilla take hold...Fishing would improve. I haven't been up to Canyon this year. Fall is always better without so many Wakeboarders and Jet Skis. I love October on this lake!

Hey Will, Any areas in the Lower part of the lake....we usually stay in Lodge at Turkey Cove. Potters/Crane Mill is usually as far up the lake as I go....but GRASS holds fish.

Launched out of public ramp by Cranes Mill Marina last week. Draw a line from Cranes Mill across (NE) to Potters; then pretty much everything North and West has grass. Especially if you go NW around Cranes Mill point towards the Guadalupe River, there are prairies of grass topped out on the surface. We caught some early morning bass with subsurface lures over the grass break lines in 6-10 foot zone. But, once sun got up, bite shut off by 9. Kind of typical for a clear sunny, summer pattern. We started seeing more grass late last year but it has really expanded this year. My guess is that the heavier rains this spring washed in more nutrients via the river.

Vegetation means more bait fish, and hopefully some larger bass....there has always been plenty of small fish!

Going to Canyon in a couple of weeks....anybody been recently(that is willing to post). Staying at Turkey Cove for 3-4 days...so wondering about how the lower lake is fishing. In past years, stripers schooling early and some small bass as well. Hope the wakeboarders and jet skis don't get up early in the morning!

Just got back from a weekend at Canyon Lake....cold front conditions with high winds. Found a few at the backs of small coves along protected shorelines. Nichols Chartreuse/White Shattered Glass Spinnerbaits accounted for my 3 bass -1.25lb small mouth; 1.75lb largemouth and 2.9lb largemouth ; plus a couple of dinks on baby brush hogs 10-15foot depth....I did notice patches of hydrilla in several paces. Top waters did not produce anything but bluegill. Water temp was 81 on Friday as front was passing and dropped to 77 on Monday....but strong winds kept us limited to protected areas. Water clarity on lower lake clear while Mid Lake was stained from the run-off of a huge storm on Thursday....but the Lake is ALMOST at FULL POOL

Glad you found some. I may go out there this weekend, but with a woman so I won't be able to focus on fishing. Probably we'll be stuck on the dock unless I can get her to try a kayak.
