I don't envy your scenario , very tough . As long as the dog is not in pain --- let her live a " happy retirement " .
We had a similar issue , my oldest dog was 16 , my wife and I talked about all the what if's . Took her in for a haircut at her groomers --- she had a heart attack and died .
Probably a blessing we didn't have to put her down ---super hard .

I would definitely consider the rabies vaccination, regardless if she's an inside dog, or not...unless she does not exit the home to use the restroom. Preema was 17 years and 4 months when she died and she was current on her vaccinations and heartworm meds. Oreo is now 16 and a couple of months...now, she is current on all her vaccinations and I have enough heartworm preventative to get her through 17 months. She has very tiny veins and I will not have her tested again, because she cried out in pain and they had to draw blood 3 times to get it. Her momma used to be the guinea pig for that one because she had good veins. Oreo does not. She will, however, always be up to date on her rabies.

I’d pass , we just lost Fergi our 12 year old Corgi we made her last month more miserable by letting them biopsy a lump we all knew was bad.

Now if I could have the new puppy’s piranha teeth removed

Rabies titers last at least three years and possibly lifetime. Skip all the shots, love on that dog until she's done being a dog

Good luck with whatever you decide. It’s a tough decision but we don’t want them to suffer so we don’t. Our little one isn’t too far behind yours.

I know first hand what you are going through. I had to make decisions that I didn't want make but it was best for them, not for me. You just know when its time. And, you'll see them again and it will be a great reunion!

Tough post to read, but some awesome wisdom shared here. Save your money and buy that pup a steak dinner or two!

I have a 16 year old bassett, has bad hips, bad vision, his hearing is getting worse everyday. But his sniffer works very well when i am eating something. Haven’t been getting shots in 2 years. He is an inside dog and have a chain link fenced in yard so he can’t get out. And yes he has many accidents in the house that I don’t think he can control, (never used to do that). I think it’s just a matter of time. It will be a sad day when that day comes. Good luck.
