So I just moved to San Marcos for school... very different style of fishing than Im used to! Hit up a few places but just too many people. Are there any good places to fish around here? Thought about heading to new braunfels and trying the Guadalupe. Other than that I'm clueless lol!

This time of year float the river above Martindale in a tube and throw small spinners on ultralight gear. Lots of fish along that stretch of river. Blanco has some water in it right now too but few fish due to all the dry years.

Used to live on the Blanco waaaay back in the day. It has bass. We used to wade it. I’ve also caught on the Comal north of where all the tubers put in. Residential areas. Full of LMB. It was really clear water. Spinning gear with 4” senkos was a solid ticket back in the day.

This^^^^!!!! Fished this stretch more times than I can count. My parents had a small cabin on a few river front acres on Martindale Falls Road(its a subdivision just past the 1979 bridge about a mile south/downstream from Martindale). We would have someone drop us off at Schil Crossing(Scull Road/C.R. 246) and float down and fish all the way to the property. Doesn’t look like a long way on Google Maps but it was several hours of fishing. Y’all could drop in at Schil Crossing and take out at either the Martindale Dam or Spencer’s Canoes/Shady Grove Campground. Tubes were our favorite mode of transportation. Float and fish the slower/deeper areas and wade through and really concentrate on the fast water areas. If you are going to fish from a canoe or kayak I’d probably start further upstream like Pecan Park…… Best lures for us were always a clear Tiny Torpedo(top water prop bait), a 3”-4” chartreuse curly tailed grub on a 3/16-1/4oz jig head or a crawdad colored squarebill crankbait. Unlike most river rats I always used a bait casting rod/reel. Always some good fishing…..good times![Linked Image]

used to fish that a long long time ago, yellow coachdog roostertail in 1/8 and 1/4 oz. use a tiny black swivel, smallest you can get.
c rig 6" black blue tail and black chart. tail worms use a 1/8 oz. for slow fall and fish them along eddy lines.

another place to try is the guadalupe above canyon lake, lots of tube/canoe rentals to take out at (probably for a fee). I lived on the guadalupe outside of comfort for a few yrs. worked in san marcos for a couple of yrs. the blanco was another good place, not many numbers but I took 3-4 over 5 while floating. some friends had property I could use to take out at, got dropped at a bridge in my canoe.

Try the stretch from Martindale to Fentress. Need canoe or kayak and an overnight trip.
