Tore my rotator cuff when my Durasafe security knob on the my Ultrex came loose and the Ultrex decided to take a swim in the lake in 30 mph winds and I had to yank it back in the boat. Wanted to see if any folks have had the biceps tendonesis surgery and what the recovery timeframe was before you could fish again? Doctor says six months but wanted to get confirmation of pros / cons on this surgery.

My non educated, only based on friends who had same or similar shoulder surgery, opinion/guess for FULL recovery is 4-6 months. Back to work, but still not completely right and can kinda fish, 8-10 weeks.

Do the rehab religiously and you may be on the water in about 3 months casting like a little kid. You will only last 1/2 a day and you will feel it. It took me a full year to get back to normal and even then had to warm up the shoulder before casting. Get ready for T-Rex arm for a little while. Sleeping in a easy chair will help as well during recovery.

Had bicep tendiosis, slap tear, and rotator cuff surgery june 2. Removed from the sling on July 16, with range of motion PT until now. Start strength PT on monday, but arm and shoulder are solid. No pain, and not one bit of pain at night. Dr saif it wouldn't be 100% for a year, but the heal time is 6 months. I can pull the ultrex up at this point with my repaired shoulder but i caught myself, and only do it with my good arm. Had right shoulder repaired 8 years ago, and now the left this year.

The tendiosis is not as bad as the rotator. I was using the bicep muscle first..

Don't know what shoulder you damaged, but with my current left shoulder recovery I had to get out. I had no problem reeling with my left hand by 6 weeks, and holding the rod with my right. My normal way is, reeling with my right and holding the rod with my left. So i went all spinning, and moved the handle to the left. Here is the strange thing I found out, my right arm has about 50% of the sensitivity as my left. Been holding the rod with my left from day one. Learning curve, but you can get out. I tried to set the hook with my left this week and it just didn't have the power yet.

Surgery is a real PITA.. Wouldn't wish this surgery on my enemy.. But the chronic pain at night was affecting my health. Just do it, and plan on three months before your actually using it. Mine was a complete reconstruction so it might have a longer recovery. Shoot me a IM if you want to chew the fat.

Had mine cut out from my shoulder, screwed back in at the top front portion of the shoulder…..rehab for 3 weeks, reached down to pick up a wet towel and tore it from the screw attaching it.
Doctor looked at it and ask if I was planning on working out with heavy weights, I laugh..at my age no! He said then forget it and accept about a 5% decrease in strength.
That’s been 3 years or so ago.

Your age has a lot to do with it. If you are over 45, I would say One year before you are completely back to normal

Dave got a second option from a great rehab doctor and in 6 months he is fine now. All exercises can be done at home after the first week at rehab center. He is back to fishing tournaments at 90% and still doing all the exercises twice each day.

A lot depends on which arm, I had my left shoulder repaired after tearing my biceps tendon diving on an inflatable slip n slide. I'd say 6 months minimum. Do the therapy, it sucks but works. Good luck.
