Headed up there in a couple weeks. Has anyone been up there lately? Iām planning on trying for trout below the dam and bringing the boat for largemouth on the lake.

I haven't fished the spillway lately, but I've seen some nice fish on recent YouTube videos. I'll be up there Labor Day weekend and claim my spot early in the morning.

Thinking of going there in the fall for some fishing and to view the foliage with the wife. Any suggestion of a time frame for the best foliage?

Best time for foliage is mid Nov.

Best foliage is during the first 2 weeks of November, although the best I ever saw was on Halloween, but that's not the norm. Too many leaves on the ground after mid November. For the best foliage, take an afternoon or morning and drive north on 259 to highway one and go left on the Winding Stair/Talimena road. Turn around after a mile or two. Spectacular vistas and the entire drive is beautiful.

PSA in case you haven't been there in a while. The regs changed last year. Only barbless hooks allowed everywhere in the park and a 3 rainbow trout limit if you're inclined to keep any. As hot as it is the spillway waterfalls are the best place to fish. That highly oxygenated water draws the fish like a magnet. Last year in July that is where I found my larger fish. By the way, when you fish the lake try for the smallmouths as well.

PS don't forget you need a new parking permit every 24 hours. They have a "meter maid" going around writing tickets!!
